  Counseling Services

In many cases, our counselors are a client's first contact with CSBPS. Not only are our counselors a great source of information about the many resources within the agency and beyond, but they also provide the support, reassurance and encouragement many clients need in order to get the most out of the resources.

With special training in vision loss, aging, and disability issues, our social workers work with clients and their families so they can move beyond the medical diagnosis of vision loss to rehabilitation and adaptation. Such a diagnosis often triggers denial, frustration, depression, feelings of grief and loss, and fears about living with a chronic disability. Working through these issues helps clear the way so clients can focus on successfully learning how to maintain their independence and well-being despite vision loss. More about coping with vision loss.

Counseling is available free of charge as a home-based service to residents of King, Snohomish, and Skagit counties in the state of Washington.

Our counselors also provide:

  • Information and referral to community resources
  • Family education and support
  • Presentations to health organizations, community groups and seniors
  • Coordination of peer support groups
